The Art of Drag | The Ladies of Lucky Cheng’s visit Ottawa

The art of drag has undoubtedly taken the mainstream by storm thanks to the popularity of RuPaul’s Drag Race, but drag has been around long before that. Often dubbed “the birthplace of drag”, New York City’s Lucky Cheng’s Drag Show and Cabaret is arguably the centre of the drag universe and lucky for us we were graced with 3 next-level Queens at Queer Sphere Expo 2019!

Detoxx Busti-ae led her girls across the border and overwhelmed the crowd with her energetic performance as Tina Turner (especially that one guy in the audience!) and brought her fiercest costumes to the stage including a stunning body-contouring dress made out of the American flag.

The King Ivy and her cheekbones took female impersonation to a whole other level and Digna showed us what progressive drag looked like by choosing to come out topless for one of her numbers, further blurring the gender lines. What a treat to experience such a high-level and international form of drag right here in the Capital!
