The first Queer Sphere Expo was a hit

The inaugural Queer Sphere Expo took place on the first weekend of Global Pride Month, June 8th & 9th, 2019, and was an unprecedented success! Most consumer shows have a laser focus on a specific theme i.e. weddings, pets etc. but the Queer Sphere Expo celebrates all LGBTQ+-friendly and focused businesses and not-for-profit organizations under the rainbow!

With over 70 vendors in categories ranging from the x-rated to family friendly, there was something for everyone no matter what you were shopping for! When attendees first walked through the massive rainbow archway made of giant balloons and entered the stunning hall at the Shaw Centre, they were greeted with a colourful chalkboard wall where patrons could write what pride and Queer Sphere means to them.

A glance to your right unveiled a long aisle of eager exhibitors with a brightly lit rainbow stage at the end of the hall where much action took place over the weekend led by energetic emcee, Jesse Reynolds! Highlights included the unbelievably fun Capital Pride Drag Royale Showcase where amateur drag performers competed in a lip-sync battle for a $1000 skin makeover from Skin Revival Clinic & Spa (who were also providing free skin scans at the show).

Another daytime stage highlight was Stroked Ego’s men’s fashion show starring adult film stars Cory Kane and Peter Pounder along with local models showcasing swimwear as well as casual and formal summer looks, but that wasn’t the only fashion on display- Dayna’s Pet Sitting dazzled with an array of pet fashions during the Doggy Fashion Show; and nobody could forget the heart-warming performance from Ms. Horizon and the youth from Jeunesse Idem. Hot 89.9 kept the music pumping throughout the expo with host Kenny B! The pride and love in the room were palpable and that is evident by the outpouring of love and support shown on social media both during and after the event.
